We got off to an early (at least for us) start just over two weeks ago, at 5:30 am EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). We just swept the kids out of bed, still in their pjs, and hit the road.
Our first stop of the trip was a McDonald’s in Western Virginia, for breakfast and to put clothes on the kids. And we stopped at the Tennessee welcome center to go to the bathroom, and then again about halfway through the state for a picnic lunch.
But our first SCHEDULED stop of the trip was Memphis, Tennessee, to walk down Beale Street to Dyer’s for hamburgers for dinner.
We ate there two years ago on our family vacation, and Memphis/east Arkansas was about the right distance for our first night’s stop. This was before Keith talked me into driving through the night, making this the last real stop we would make until Arizona a full day later!
